Based on her name you might suspect Nicole Stoliaroff is Russian, but she isn’t. She’s actually French, the sister of actress-singer Hélène Stoliaroff, better known as Hélène Chanel. Nicole didn’t have quite the same show business success as her sister—she made one movie, 1978’s War of the Robots, in which she performed under the name Nicole Stocks. Maybe it’s good she didn’t besmirch the family name. The movie was terrible. It has a 2.7 rating on IMDB and that website, because the reviews are crowdsourced, is notoriously lenient. Well, we rate these two images solid 10s.
1912—Missing Explorer Robert Scott Found
British explorer Robert Falcon Scott and his men are found frozen to death on the Ross Ice Shelf in Antarctica, where they had been pinned down and immobilized by bad weather, hunger and fatigue. Scott’s expedition, known as the Terra Nova expedition, had attempted to be the first to reach the South Pole only to be devastated upon finding that Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen had beaten them there by five weeks. Scott wrote in his diary: “The worst has happened. All the day dreams must go. Great God! This is an awful place.”
