We shared the Harry Bennett cover for Noel Clad’s 1958 crime thriller The Savage. Above is Belmont Books’ 1970 pass at the novel, with uncredited art. This tale distinguishes itself by being an early effort to diversify old archetypes by making the central figure here—a Mafia hitman—a Shoshone Indian, with all that it entails. He’s a different kind of guy, and this was a decent if flawed book. More here.
