The above cover of Male is from June 1954 and it has art by Mel Bolden, who got his start working with Norman Rockwell and was probably the most prominent black illustrator of his era. We’ll put together a collection of his excellent stuff a bit later.
1901—McKinley Fatally Shot
Polish-born anarchist Leon Czolgosz shoots and fatally wounds U.S. President William McKinley at the Pan-American Exposition in Buffalo, New York. McKinley dies September 12, and Czolgosz is later executed.
