This promo shot shows U.S. star Rhonda Fleming looking very lean and fit. We’ve seen other frames from the session which show that this isn’t some studio lot she was on—she was in an actual yard somewhere in L.A. The house or duplex in the background is across a small street. Can you imagine the effect this shoot must have had?
Neighborhood husband: “Honey, gonna go water the grass.”
Neighborhood wife forty minutes later: “Goodness, where is he?”
About fifteen minutes after that, Fleming and company were run out of the suburb by women brandishing torches and pitchforks, which is where her being fit really paid dividends as she outdistanced her photographer, her stylist, her whole crew. We think the danger was worth it for the photo. We don’t have an exact date on it, but it’s from the mid-to late-1950s.
