Actresses from Japan’s extremely popular pinku genre didn’t just brandish weapons in their movies and get naked for promo images and public appearances. Some sang, some very successfully. Reiko Ike put out a few well received platters such as the one you see above released by RCA Victor in 1972. She had already released a full album in 1971, which we discussed here. This was the follow-up. It was a single with 変身, or “Transformation,” on the A-side, and on the B a tune called 女の赤い血がさわぐ, which means “a woman’s red blood stirs.” What can you say about a title like that? It’s fantastic. Take note popsters—titles matter. The music is also nice, in a go-go sort of way. You can listen to both songs here.
