We’re still compiling another group of desert island cartoons from vintage men’s magazines, but along the way we’ve detoured into what you see above—dungeon cartoons. Like desert island cartoons, these were a standard theme many cartoonists tried their hands at. And like the island cartoons, we wouldn’t say any of these are actually funny (not that we should criticize), but they’re fascinating as windows into the humor of the time. As far as the artists are concerned, a few of these are by Australian cartoonist Ted Trogdon, who worked mainly for Kenmure Publications, and another is by the U.S. cartoonist Art Lutner. The rest are illegibly signed or have only a single name, so we’re unable to attribute them. But we don’t imagine their creators ever clambered for credit. Twenty more examples below.
