This photo shows Veracruz born actress Meche Carreño, aka Mercedes Carreño, draped—sort of—in a rebozo, or Mexican shawl. She appeared in more than twenty movies, mostly during the ’60s and ’70s, and today is fondly remembered by generations of Mexican filmgoers who watched her in efforts such as El Noa Noa, La sangre enemiga, and Damiana y los hombres. We will certainly see about tracking down one or two of those flicks.
This is the only version of this photo you’ll see uncensored, as far as we know. There’s a reason for that. We made it ourselves by compositing two shots together—one featuring Meche’s breasts painted over by a retoucher who enlarged her wrap, the other with the wrap in its original form but with part of her body marred by a large watermark. What resulted from our work is a beautiful, artful image of a really lovely woman.
