Lo Strano Dottor Benson, which translates as, “The Strange Doctor Benson,” came from Editrice P.E.N. in 1961 for its series Romanzi Del Terrore, with this cool cover credited to Valerio Valerii. He’s a new name to us, but one that’s probably a pseudonym. We draw that conclusion because it doesn’t seem to be a common name, yet there was a Valerio Valeri—with one “i”—who was a cardinal in the Roman Catholic Church when this was published. The artist may have chosen the name ironically. We’ll probably never know. Nice art, though.
