Is Spider Man modern pulp? We think so. He dates from 1962 but comes from a long line of mysterious urban vigilante crime fighters extending all the way back to 1930s creations like the Shadow, the Black Bat, and of course, the Spider. The two items above are prop covers of the fictional New York City tabloid Daily Bugle, a paper run by one of Spider Man’s most persistent nemeses, publisher J. Jonah Jameson. You see Willem Dafoe on the cover of the second one. He played the Green Goblin in two Spider Man movies. We haven’t posted any comic art in a while, but we ran across these curiosities and they seemed like perfect items to bridge our pulp fiction interests with the vintage tabloids we often share.
