Pulp International - Reiko+Ike
Femmes Fatales Jul 21 2019
IKE FURNITURE COMPANY
Good interior design is about finding the perfect accessories.

Reiko Ike, always a favorite here at Pulp Intl., relaxes on a cool modern sofa and tries to decide if she'll get fully dressed at any point during the day. This image, which we've cleaned a little to get rid of an inset box that was obstructing the view, came from a 1974 photo magazine called Young • Idol • Now. However, a similar shot was used on the rear of her collectible LP The World of Ecstasy, so it turns out the photo actually dates from that session, which was three years earlier. See below.

SOME VELVET MOANING
Reiko Ike gives fans a dose of ecstasy.

Like many 1970s Japanese actresses Reiko Ike took advantage of her cinema stardom by releasing music. In 1971 she and Teichiku Records got together put out the album Kôkotsu No Sekai, which as we mentioned above was called in English The World of Ecstasy. Here you see the front cover with its famed topless photo of Reiko, and the rear and inside covers are below. The rear cover is almost identical to the photo in the above post, with the difference being in the direction of her gaze.

The album was basically a novelty release. Only a thousand copies were ever pressed. At least initially. It's since been released as a remastered CD. The original vinyl can be expensive. In the U.S. people try to sell it at anywhere from $100 to $1,000, but in Japan it usually goes for less. The cost differs depending on whether it's a first or later pressing, and whether the gatefold poster is inside, which you see at right.

For the kind of cash people ask for this platter, Reiko can obviously sing like a lark, right? That came across as flip, we know, but actually she's better than you probably suspect. Her voice is low, mellifluous, and quite confident, and interestingly, a lot of the vocals are orgasmic moans and sighs.

She does all this backed by Masami Kawahara & The Exotic Sounds, who had released a 1970 album with orgasmic vocals, so apparently this was a trend. It's weird at first, but after a while it's pretty effective. That may be a good way to describe Reiko's movies too. You can listen to a couple of songs from the disc here and here.

LAST ROLL OF THE DICE
We're gambling that you'll like this poster.

Some of our proudest shares on this website have been the rare posters we've shown you for Hijirimen bakuto, aka, Hidirimen bakuto, aka Red Silk Gambler. All of those amazing promos have now proliferated online and you'll often see them used whenever someone writes about the movie. Well, we have one more to add to the mix, which is the tateken sized promo featuring all the main cast members—Hiroko Fuji, Junko Matsudaira, Mitsue Horikoshi, Eiko Nakamura, Sanae Tsuchida, Reiichi Hatanaka, and Reiko Ike. This should pretty much cover it for this film. Click here and scroll to see the entire collection. Hijirimen bakuto premiered in Japan today in 1972.

DOUBLE POSITIVE
Reiko Ike leaves everyone's tongues tied in nots.

Yes, we just shared a rare calendar page of pinku legend Reiko Ike, but what are you gonna do when she stars in photos like this one? We can't not post it. That's a double negative, we know, but some thoughts can only be expressed that way. We can't not not share this photo, because that would be immoral. Is that even right? Not the immoral part. The not part. If you decide you're not not not not going to do something, that means you're going to do it, right? Or maybe you can only successfully use a single double negative, and all the extra nots can only be used as emphasis rather than meaning, like saying you're never never never never going to do something, in which case that would mean you're not going to do it. Tricky questions. We could avoid them by using a single positive, but that would lack the exactness of the double negative. We will post it lacks the punch of we can't not post it. The meaning is similar, but the double negative removes our control over the decision, which is useful when the Pulp Intl. girlfriends look at the site. Baby, we couldn't not post it. So the double negative is better than the single positive and there's no such thing as a double positive. Well, maybe that's not strictly true. For instance, we're double positive about posting this photo. And gramatically speaking, people do say yes yes under certain circumstances, but those circumstances shouldn't occur while looking at naked photos on a computer. If that happens, we can only suggest that it's time to ask someone on a date.

A TALE TO BE TOLD
Once upon a time in Japan there was a badass named Reiko.

Today we're showing something special—a bo-ekibari style poster for Reiko Ike's Yasagure anego den: sôkatsu rinchi, also known as Female Yakuza Tale. The poster comes in beautiful blue and maroon tones, and the movie, a classic, comes in tones of blood. We wouldn't describe it as the number one pinku film of all time, but it's right up there. It opened in Japan today in 1973.

REIKO IN REPOSE
I really don't know if I can survive another day of this.

Summer is coming just in the nick of time for Reiko Ike, who tends to wilt during the cold Japanese winter months, as you see her doing in this photo. It comes from an issue of the Japanese magazine Weekly Playboy and was published in January 1972 as part of a pin-up calendar. Reiko appears here in the month of May, which is the commencement of new hope, the efflorescence of the natural world, and a good time to shop for bathing suits. Unless you prefer to go au naturel. She actually got every month in this particular calendar, so we'll upload more scans from it later.

30 MILLION THE HARD WAY
If it were easy to steal anyone could do it.

We have some nice pinku posters lined up for this month, and above you see the first of those—the tateken and standard promos for Suke Yakuza, aka Female Yakuza Convict, aka Female Prisoner Yakuza, which premiered in Japan today in 1974 starring Yoko Horikoshi and Reiko Ike. Though we can't be sure, we don't think this movie has been released on DVD, because we couldn't find it—the first time that's happened with one of Ike's films. No copy means no firsthand rundown, but we can tell you what the Japanese websites say. It's about bank robbers who steal 30 million yen and try to elude the cops and escape with the cash. Of the three, only one manages to avoid capture. Horikoshi, a female accomplice, is tossed in a women's prison where she meets Reiko, and the two of them manage to escape. Their plan is meet up with the robber who avoided capture, get ahold of the cash, and get for away from the big city, but mishaps and twists follow. Basically, it's sounds like classic Toei pinky violence, but sadly we may not get to see this one unless we go to Japan. But the posters sure are pretty. We have bonus material below—production photos, a Horikoshi promo poster, and a Reiko promo shot from wherever.

HALF BAKED
The key to an even tan is to turn regularly.

Japanese action movie icon Reiko Ike, who you just saw recently, is back giving both halves of her body equal time in the sun in these two promo images from the early 1970s. She's also careful to keep her tender bits covered because, let's face it, that's a sunburn that'll ruin your week. The hand shaped tan line will raise eyebrows, though. Why didn't she simply wear bottoms? Actually she did, and we have a photo of that we may post later. Meanwhile see plenty more of Reiko by clicking her keywords below.

EYES OF THE STORM
If you think the danger has passed you're wrong.

Reiko Ike is famous for both the crazy pinku action films in which she's laid many a bad man low, and for her provocative promo photos that have made many a male fan rise. The above shot is different, an image that zooms in mainly on her expressive face. The pinku genre is vast, with performers of diverse skills and styles, but Ike is near the top of the pyramid. This photo dates from around 1973.

FURIOUS AND CURIOUS
You know, you're kind of sexy when you're mad.

The panel length promo for Furyô anego den: Inoshika Ochô, aka Sex & Fury was one of the first Japanese posters we ever shared. It's now the standard poster scan for this film on the internet. We see it everywhere, and it's defnintely the one we uploaded because we recognize the various imperfections of the image. We've also had the above bo-ekibari style promo the whole time, and we're sharing it now, whole and in halves, eight years after that first upload, just for the sake of completeness. Have you seen the movie? It's pretty wild, and it has a love scene between Reiko Ike and Christina Lindberg. If that doesn't make your loins go all hot and gooey you aren't technically alive. Furyô anego den: Inoshika Ochô premiered in Japan today in 1973.
